Cranial Cruciate Ligament Disease: Diagnosis and Surgical Management
نویسنده
چکیده
Clinically-relevant features of each bone a. Distal femur – The medial and lateral femoral condyles articulate with the tibia, and the femoral trochlea articulates with the patella. The femoral condyles are separated by a notch called the intercondyloid fossa. b. Proximal tibia – The articular surface is divided into medial and lateral condyles to correspond with those of the femur, separated by a non-articular region called the intercondylar eminence. The medial and lateral intercondylar tubercles are projections on either side of the eminence. Caudally, the popliteal notch separates the tibial condyles. The extensor groove is a small notch at the cranial margin of the lateral tibia that allows passage of the long digital extensor tendon.

متن کاملEvaluation of partial cranial cruciate ligament rupture with positive contrast computed tomographic arthrography in dogs
Computed tomographic arthrography (CTA) of four cadaveric canine stifles was performed before and after partial cranial cruciate ligament rupture in order to verify the usefulness of CTA examination for the diagnosis of partial cranial cruciate ligament rupture. To obtain the sequential true transverse image of a cranial cruciate ligament, the computed tomography gantry was angled such that the...
متن کاملTibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO): Surgical Treatment of Your Dog’s Knee Injury Understanding disease of the Cranial Cruciate Ligament
Understanding disease of the Cranial Cruciate Ligament The CCL is one of the most important stabilizers of the knee. It prevents hyperextension, limits internal rotation, and prevents the tibia (shin bone) from sliding forward each time the leg bears weight. When the CCL is damaged, the result is an unstable knee. This instability results in pain and inflammation. Over time, debilitating arthri...
متن کاملAcute pelvic limb lameness in a dog following a fall.
Discussion Differential diagnoses included chip fracture of the patella, femur or tibia, or an avulsion fracture of a ligament insertion. Based on location and cranial-caudal instability, avulsion of the origin of the cranial cruciate ligament was considered most likely, with concurrent lateral collateral ligament sprain, and potential further intra-articular damage. Exploratory surgery of the ...
متن کاملCranial cruciate ligament injury in the dog: pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment.
Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) disease in the dog is a multifactorial complex problem that requires a thorough understanding of the biomechanics of the stifle joint to be understood. Successful treatment of rupture of the CCL should be based on managing underlying anatomical and conformational abnormalities rather than attempting to eliminate the tibial cranial drawer sign. The cranial and cau...
